Excellent question for the intelligent consumer.
First, there's no real catch. We sell mattresses that are discontinued models (may have different fabric than last years), floor models, 'as is' merchandise meaning a slight cosmetic blemish that does not affect the quality of the mattress or retail 'overstock' models (they bought too many and need to bring in new merchandise).
Retailers have to pay high overhead, offer warranties and generally have to pass their cost onto their customers.
We are a small company. Not trying to become the next huge mattress retailer but trying to fill the niche for that different kind of consumer. No high overhead, low cost advertising, great 'word of mouth' reputation and meeting some great people along the way.

What is the difference between your store and a regular retailer?
ChicagoDiscountMattress.com is similiar to a retail store like Ross or Marshall's but we sell mattresses. Incredible deals for great quality merchandise.
At ChicagoDiscountMattress.com because we buy in bulk and can't specify a particular type of mattress, we are able to get inventory at a fraction of the cost of a retailer. We don't offer warranties on the mattresses. Our mattresses are sold 'as is'.
We get last year's models and overstock inventory that retailers remove from their stores to make room for the new models. Retailers generally bring in new models a few times a year and we're able to get those models. We sometimes will have the exact mattress on their showroom floor because of the different timing of the new inventory cycle.
Our inventory also can sometimes have a slight cosmetic blemish or some dust from the warehouse. Retailers can not sell these items at premium prices. So we dust the mattress off for you or remind you that you will be putting a mattress cover and sheet on it.
We also can't advertise the brands and do the usual advertising/promotions. So we try different ways to find customers and hope they are lucky enough to find us.
We also ask you to GO to a retail mattress store first or do some research online. The more information you have prior to walking in our store, the better. Plus if you haven't bought a mattress in awhile, prepare yourself. Quality mattress are EXPENSIVE. It's not uncommon to find a $2400 - $3400 mattress. And we'll sell the same thing for about $800 - $1200.

Are these new mattresses?
Yes they are new. Generally we get them in factory seals. Sometimes the wrap is ripped during transit and we have to re-wrap them. Because the manufacturer will not offer the warranty on these mattresses, they may be stamped with a notation such as 'no warranty'. We do NOT sell refurbished mattresses.
Warranties?
Our mattresses are sold 'as is'. There are no warranties.
We did some research on the warranty of mattresses. Generally you are paying a lot of extra money on something that 1) you may never use or 2) has so many loopholes that having a mattress company honor a warranty is a headache.
On a high-end high coil count mattress, the cost of paying for a warranty nearly doubles the price of a mattress. You literally can buy 2 to 3 high-end mattresses from ChicagoDiscountMattress.com for the cost of one regular priced mattress with a warranty.
What is the best mattress for me?
Only you can determine what mattress feels the best. You must actually lie down on the mattress in the position that you normally sleep to determine what mattress is the best for you.
Some general guidelines:
If you have back problems, you might look to one that has more support in those areas. Too much cushion may feel great but might over time not give enough support. A firm with a little cushion might be better and not cause any discomfort at those pressure points.
Side sleeper or back sleeper? You can have a bit more cushion (a bigger pillow top maybe)
Stomach sleeper? Get a bit more support so your back doesn't sway too much. Two people in the bed? Might want to get a higher coil count or a brand that specializes in motion suppression so you don't wake the other individual when moving.
Heavy set person? Find a high coil count to give you that added support.
Poor college student? Don't just get a mattress passed down the line, save a few hundred bucks to buy a bed. At ChicagoDiscountMattress.com, you won't break the bank to buy a quality mattress.
What exactly is the coil count or wire gauge thing?
We know it can be confusing but generally the higher the coil count, the better. And thicker the gauge of the wire that is the 'coil', is better.
But that doesn't mean a low coil count or smaller gauge is bad. It just means it's going to feel a bit different and might wear differently.

What if I need more than one mattress? Will you give me a deal?
YES! Our business is about making sales and we definitely will give you a great discount if you buy more than one. In fact, find a few friends or put an ad on craig's list asking for a few folks to come in with you to buy a mattress…we'll hook you up!
Do you do refunds or exchanges?
We are an 'all sales is final' store. We ask that you are sure of your purchase and inspect your mattress before you leave the store.
Generally we do not accept exchanges. But if you get home and lie on the bed and you experience severe back aches because of the firmness, we will give you 24 hours to return the bed in the same condition you received it. You must return the mattress yourself. You can then select a new mattress.
Bottom line…we want you to be happy with your purchase. Your 'word of mouth' referrals are important to us.

Cash or major credit cards.
Do you deliver?
We will refer you to a 3rd party delivery person. We'll assist in scheduling the delivery. If our store truck is available, we can do door-to- door delivery for same day delivery service. We will drop the mattress off to you and a couple of your buddies can help you take it in.
